Hard Cider: From Orchard to Shelf
This two-day course provides an overview of the hard cider business from orchard management to product development and marketing. Expert orchardist Gary Moulton will discuss topics on rootstock, nutrient management, pest management, irrigation, orchard layout planting, pruning, and harvest techniques. Industry professionals will share information on selecting the right apple varieties, what it takes to establish and maintain an orchard, mechanical harvesting, and how growing cider fruit can fit profitably into business plans. Hard Cider production, economics, risk management, and marketing will also be discussed.
